Milton Road Bridge
Replacement of the Milton Road Bridge, Litchfield CT
This project consisted of the replacement of the Milton Road Bridge, which is located within the Milton Historic District, which dates back to 1778. The original bridge was built in 1915 and was most recently replaced in 1992.
The existing timber bridge was found to be scour critical, and structurally and hydraulically-inadequate. The replacement bridge will have a length of 25’ and a width of 22’. The new bridge is a three-sided precast concrete box structure on steel piles foundation driven to bedrock with natural stone, cast-in-place wing-walls. The bridge approach rails is a combination of steel posts and wood.

This project was funded under the Federal Local Bridge Program and construction completed in 2019.
