Belcher Brook Trunk Interceptor

In 2015, Cardinal Engineering was retained by the Town of Berlin to conduct an Inflow and Infiltration study of the Belcher Brook Interceptor Sewer, a 9,000 lf long 24” to 30” trunk sewer which is located within a flood plain adjacent to Belcher Brook. The study demonstrated the presence of excessive infiltration and inflow in the trunk sewer. Cardinal Engineering submitted an I/I and SSES Report to the Connecticut DEEP in 2016 and assisted the Town in obtaining funding for the rehabilitation of the trunk sewer. Cardinal obtained permits from the Army Corps of Engineers, CTDEEP and the Berlin Inland Wetland Commission.

The rehabilitation will consist of cured-in-place lining, manhole rehabilitation and sewer lateral lining. The design was completed in 2017 and is currently under construction

Estimated Project Cost: $3,000,000
