Cardinal Engineering Associates - 55 years of excellence

Cardinal is currently designing the complete reconstruction of 4,677 LF of Urban Collector roadway with an ADT of 2,840 vehicles and a design speed of 40 MPH, primarily to alleviate operational and safety concerns. The design will widen the roadway to a uniform 30’ width from a width that varies between 20’ and 26’ throughout the corridor. Other improvements include lowering a vertical crest curve, raising two sag vertical curves, improving the radii of a horizontal curve and intersection curb, as well as providing clear sight lines at all intersections and sidewalks.

In addition, this project includes the design of a new storm drainage system to replace the existing system, which is inadequate.

The widening and improvements warranted the reconfiguration and raising of approximately 200’ of an intersecting local road and an adjacent parking lot that serves an apartment building. Rock cuts and guide rail along embankment portions, as well as stone wall, utility pole, and water main relocation was also required. Funding for this project will be provided by the Connecticut DOT under the STP Urban program
